About ADD/ADHD In Kids
MEATS
(About 6 Months of Age)

YOUR BABY IS ALREADY GETTlNG:

Breast milk or Formula
Baby Cereal
Strained Vegetables
Strained Fruits
Juices

YOU MAY NOW ADD:

Strained Meat — begin with a mild flavored meat like chicken. Follow this with lamb, veal, beef, liver and ham. Add meat to vegetables, or use meat-vegetable combination dinners.
Egg Yolk —hard boiled and mashed with a fork. Limit eggs to no more than 3 a week.
Finger Foods — soft cooked vegetables, soft pieces of fruit, teething biscuits, or zwieback.

GIVE BABY THIS MUCH:

Offer one teaspoon of strained meat twice a day (lunch and dinner meals). Gradually increase this to one jar (1/2 cup) a day. Try a new meat at the end of each jar.
Hard boiled egg yolk may be fed to Baby. Try a teaspoon at one meal and gradually increase this to all of the yolk.
Finger foods can be given between feedings. As your baby learns to tolerate small pieces of soft fruit, vegetables, and meats-- then these solids can replace baby foods at mealtime. Usually, by 9 months of age approximately half of the foods at mealtime will be table foods. Balance the baby’s meals to include meat, fruit, and vegetables at lunch and dinner. Breakfast can be fruit and cereal.

TRY THESE IDEAS:

Feed the meat or egg yolk at the beginning of feeding time when Baby is hungry.

Start your Baby drinking from a cup so (s)he will get used to drinking formula this way. Wash cups in hot soapy water and rinse well with hot water.

Allow Baby to drink milk from cup or bottle prior to putting in bed - do not allow falling asleep with bottle in crib - milk will decay teeth during the night.

REMEMBER:

Bacon and sausage contain too much fat and salt for baby.
Gravy and biscuits DO NOT replace meat.
Be sure Baby is not given any candy, cookies, soda, or other highly sweetened foods. This can take away your Baby’s appetite and be harmful to teeth.

Check with your doctor or nurse about vitamins, iron and fluoride for Baby.
