Summer Activities for KIDS!

 

  • Kids Carving Hosted by the Core Sound Decoy Carvers Guild Kids are invited to join guild members to carve decoys on the third Saturday of each month from 10 a.m. to noon (except in December).  Carving is done with Dremel sanders and each youth will usually be able to complete a miniature decoy in one session.  For more information, visit http://www.decoyguild.com or call 252-838-8818.

 

 


 

  • Visit the North Carolina Aquarium at http://www.ncaquariums.com/pine-knoll-shores/programs.  Whether you kids would like to tour the Aquarium or you want to add some extra fun and adventure to their summer, please join the aquarium for a variety of educational and interactive programs and activities.

 

 

 

 

  • Camps at the History Place from 9 a.m. - 1:45 p.m. Camp I meetings from June 20-24 and Camp II meets June 27-July 1.  Cost is $100 per camper and includes snack, lunch, T-shirt, caps, bottled water, journals and supplies for other crafts and activites.  Call Cindi Hamilton or Carol Smith for a brochure or more information at 247-7533 or email historyplace@starfishnet.com

 

  • 2011 Heritage Entrepreneurship Camps:  Camp I at Carteret Community College from 8:30 a.m.- 3 p.m. July 18-22 and the Core Sound Waterfowl Museum and Heritage Cetner on Harkers Island is hosting a camp from 9 a.m. - 3 p.m. June 27-July 1.  Contact Betsy DeCampo at CCC 222-6166 for information and to register. 

 

  • Arts Council of Carteret County and Carteret Community College are hosting a Summer Art Camp:  August 1-5 from 9 a.m. to Noon.  The camp is limited to 80 participants ages 11-15.  The Cost per student is $95 per student, which covers all art supplies and includes a midday snack.  To register, contact 726-9156 or visit www.artscouncilcarteret.org and click on Summer Arts Camp and then click on the download link to print an application.  Mail completed applications to Arts Council of Carteret County, P.O.   • June 13 marks the beginning of the N.C. Martiime Museum's 2011 Junior Sailing Program.  Sessions are June 27, July 11, and July 25, August 8-14 with the Regatta Week Program.  This program teaches more advance boat handling techniques and racing fundamentals.  To see a full listing and registration information visit the website at www.ncmaritimemuseums.com.

 

  • Morehead City Parks and Recreation Department is taking applications for 2011 Summer Camp at the Morehead City Community Center 1600 Fisher St. The camp is 7:30 a.m. -5:30 p.m.  June 20- August 12 for ages 6-12.  Cost is $300 for Morehead City residents and $450 for non-city residents, and includes all field trips, camp T-shirts, arts and crates and supervised activities.  Registration fees are due on or before June 18.  For more information, contact the department at 726-5083.

 

  • N.C. Coastal Federation and Hammocks Beach State Park staff for the summer day camp, Jones Island Exploreres, on June 29 or July 27 to learn about coast ecosystems and ecology, American Indian influences and critters through hands-on activities on Jones Island in the White Oak River.   For more information contact 393-8185, nccf@nccoast.org or visit www.nccoast.org

 

  • Emerald Isle Parks and Recreation is hosting a few youth tennis camps this summer.  From 9-10:30 June 13-17 and July 18-22, the camp is for ages 7-13 and is $70 for the weeklong session.  Geared for all levels, registration is limited to six students.  For more information, contact Laurie Morris at lmorris @emeraldislenc.org or 354-6350. 

 

  • Summer camps at the N.C. Aquirium at Pine Knoll Shores combine fun and learning with hands-on, feet-wet experences for rising second through seventh grates.  Camps are 8 a.m. -12:30 p.m. and 1- 5:30 p.m. Cost is $250 per person, per camp or $225 for aquirum members. Aquatic Adventures (2nd and 3rd graders): June 13-17 and Coastal Explorers ( 4th and 5th graders):  Sea Scholars (6th and 7th graders):  July 18-22/ June 20-24- August 1-5 Registration is requried and can be completed online at www.ncaquariums.com or by phone at 247-4003, ext. 257.
